Thai takeaway near Somerton Park? We're five minutes up the road

Soft-shell crab Pad Thai packed fresh for takeaway from Rim Thang Thai, Glenelg

Somerton Park has the beach, the quiet streets and the oval — what it doesn't have is a Thai kitchen of its own. Fair enough: we're only about five minutes up the road. Head north on Brighton Road, swing onto Jetty Rd at Glenelg, and we're at number 39, right on the strip.

Rim Thang Thai has been family-run since 2023, cooking Thai street food fresh daily — curries, wok-fired noodles, fried rice and handmade dumplings. Our name means "roadside" in Thai, and the food matches: proper night-market cooking, dine in or packed to go. For anyone in Somerton Park, we reckon that beats scrolling a delivery app and hoping for the best.

Call ahead — it's ready when you arrive

The takeaway routine is simple. Have a look at the menu, call us on 0426 359 311, and by the time you've driven up from Somerton Park your order is packed and waiting at the counter. No apps, no delivery fees, no bag going soggy in someone's top box.

A quick tip on ordering: most of our mains are priced by protein. Tofu or chicken is the entry price, seafood sits a few dollars up, and the combination — chicken, prawns and calamari together — tops each list. You also set the spice on every dish, so if half the house wants mild and one person wants Thai hot, that's no trouble; just say so on the phone.

We're dinner only, seven nights a week: Monday to Friday 5–10:30PM, Saturday and Sunday 5–11:30PM. All the takeaway details are here.

What travels best

Five minutes in the car is nothing, so nearly everything on the menu makes the trip in good shape. Wok dishes go straight from the pan into the container, curries keep their heat in the sauce, and the dumplings are handmade and sturdy enough to survive any car ride. But a few things are practically built for the trip — start with the curries and the fried rice:

Or stay — the tuk-tuk's waiting

If you'd rather make a night of it, the room's half the fun: a real blue-and-yellow tuk-tuk parked inside, milk-crate lanterns overhead, and a neon sign over a mural of Thai landmarks. Kids love it. So do the grown-ups, once the Thai beers land on the table. Feeding the whole family after Saturday sport? A couple of curries, a Pad Thai, dumplings for the kids and rice all round covers four people without much thought.

Either way, we're close enough that Thai food in Somerton Park doesn't mean settling for whatever delivers. Directions and parking are on the visit page — 39 Jetty Rd, Glenelg, open from 5PM every night.
